The Sky at Night
The Sky at Night is a daily documentary television program on astronomy produced by the BBC. The show had the lasting presenter, Patrick Moore, from its very first airing on 24 April 1957 until 7 January 2013, Moore having expired on 9. This left it the longest-running programme with the presenter in television history. Ancient episodes are currently missing, either as the incident has been broadcast live or thrown out, or because the tapes were wiped.
Beginning with the 3 February 2013 incident, the show has been co-presented from Lucie Green and Chris Lintott.
The programme's opening and closing theme music is"At the Castle Gate", from the incidental music to Pelléas et Mélisande from Jean Sibelius, played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham.
