Casanova
The Italian adventurer and libertine Giovanni Jacopo Casanova dwelt from 17-25 to 1798, in this series Dennis Potter attempted to find a contemporary relevance through his central topics of religion and sex. He remarked Casanova"was concerned with sexual and religious freedom, and these are the things we need to address ourselves to now." Casanova premiered in 1755 in Venice, and Potter used that event being a device, always inter-cutting to contrast Casanova's romantic escapades, radiant, joyful and brightly lit, in the lieu of a cell that was half-darkened with his solitary confinement.
