60 Minutes
60minutes, an Australian form of the U.S. television news magazine 60 Minutes, airs on Sunday nights on the Nine Network and is presented in substantially the same way as the American program onto which it is based. The New Zealand model of the show has featured sections of the Australian edition.
Gerald Stone, the founding executive producer, was awarded the job by Kerry Packer and was told:"I actually don't give a glimpse. . What it requires. Simply get it done and get it done directly." After the first episode was broadcast on 11 February 1979, Packer was impressed, telling Rock:"You have blown it, kid. You better fix it fast." Over time, Stone's award winning 60minutes revolutionised Australian current affairs and enhanced the careers of Ian Leslie Ray Martin, George Negus, and after Jana Wendt.
Since it was first broadcast, 60minutes has won five Logies, one Particular Achievement Logie, and nominations for a further six Logie awards.
