Flee
Using largely animation to shield his identity, Amin reminisces about his childhood as an Afghan refugee, and he wrestles with a secret he's kept hidden for more than two decades in the process. In this gripping documentary, created with a combination of animation and historical video, an Afghan survivor and his struggle to come to terms with his history is told in a way that is both moving and inspiring. Amin was an unaccompanied minor when he came in Denmark as a refugee from Afghanistan. Today, at the age of 36, he is a successful scholar who is engaged to be married to his long-term partner. An unspoken secret he has been keeping for more than two decades threatens to derail the life he has worked so hard to create for himself. In this conversation with a close friend, he is revealing his experience for the first time. In FLEE, the director weaves together a visually breathtaking tapestry of pictures and memories to convey the deeply moving and original narrative of a young man who must confront his painful past in order to discover his true self and the meaning of home.
