When Louis meets the Phelps family, he discovers that they are at the heart of the Westboro Baptist Church, a controversial religious organization. To further their anti-homosexual crusade, they frequently attend military funerals to spread their message. They hold the view that every human tragedy is a punishment from God for homosexual behavior.
